4 Reasons to eat Organic, Grass-Fed, and Local - My Favourite Local Farms
Optimizing your health is more than just eating healthfully; it’s also ensuring the quality of the foods you’re putting into your body. In today’s society, our food products are nutrient depleted, full of chemicals, and generally not as healthy as they were 50 years ago. Now more than ever it is imperative we focus on eating local and organic from farmers who are doing it right!
4 Reasons to eat Organic, Grass-Fed, and Local
#1 Chemicals
The number of pesticides, glyphosate, and other chemicals in today’s food supply is extremely concerning. These substances increase the workload on our livers, which are responsible for filtering toxins alongside hundreds of other vital roles. When your toxin exposure surpasses your liver’s capacity, health issues can develop. Choosing foods grown and raised without chemicals supports your body’s natural detoxification processes and your health overall. you’re supporting your body in every way! Additionally, spending your money on chemical-free products helps reduce overall chemical exposure in our communities, fostering a healthier environment for everyone.
#2 Higher Nutritional Value
Over the past several decades, the nutrient content of our soil, and therefore our food, has significantly declined. Since the 1950’s, the magnesium content in vegetables has declined from 25-80% of what it once was. Magnesium, an essential mineral required for over 300 bodily functions, including energy production, glucose regulation, and bone formation, is now so depleted in our food supply that supplementation is almost always required. Farmers who focus on soil health and regenerative agricultural practices produce food with a higher nutritional value. Additionally, these products have not had to travel so far preserving more nutrients.
#3 Happier Animals Means Healthier Food
The way animals are raised matters. Just as a child deprived of exercise, adequate nutrients, and sunlight, will struggle to thrive, the same is true of the animals that become our food. The way the chickens, pigs, and cows live directly impacts the quality of the product you eat. If an animal is crammed into small cages, does not see sunshine, and lives under stress your food will reflect that. Every bite of food you take becomes part of your cells. Choosing to eat animals that have been raised in humane ways, and living on the land, the way nature intended impacts your health at a fundamental level.
#4 Healthier Communities for Generations
These local farmers don’t spend their days and nights working the land just for profit. They also do it because they care about our children and the generations to come. Over the past century, industrial agricultural methods have depleted the earth's valuable nutrients, limited soil biodiversity, and increased toxins in our environment. By using ecological and regenerative farming practices, these farmers are preserving our land and soil so we have food for the future! Supporting these farmers supports the health and well-being of our communities for now and into the future!
Where you choose to spend your money matters
All of the farms listed below are farmers I know and trust. They are focused on raising and growing the highest quality products while also preserving our natural ecosystems so we have food for generations to come. I don’t praise grass-finished and organic products because it’s “trendy” I promote it because it is the best way to eat for our health, earth, and community.
