Low adrenals: Is this you?

If you've been walking around this world, living in constant stress, you’ve put a significant burden on your adrenal glands.

Your body is trying so hard to keep you alive in the face of this 'dangerous' life you are living and it does so by activating the adrenals and signalling them to pump out cortisol!

A dangerous life is an interesting statement, and you might be thinking, “My life isn’t dangerous”.

Now, you and I know that your life isn’t dangerous. You aren't a skydiver, or race car driver where your life could actually be threatened. On a logical level, you’re safe. But your body, she isn’t getting that message.

All she sees and feels are threats to her safety. Maybe she grew up in a home that wasn’t safe and she never learned this feeling. Maybe her workplace feels scary or her relationships are unstable. She MUST protect herself in the only way she knows how - by activating the stress response.

Constant stress, and a lack of safety, induce more and more stress. This calls for more and more adrenal activation and more and more cortisol output. Eventually, the adrenals get tired and worn out, and with nothing left to give, they start to under-function.

Many of us are living with under-functioning adrenal glands, thinking we are just tired, emotional, or a perfectionist when really, it’s our low and slow adrenal glands that are trying to give us a message.

When someone comes to me needing help recovering from burnout and chronic stress, there are MANY symptoms we look at. Most often, if not always, they tick off every low adrenal symptom box.

Symptoms of low adrenal function include

- Difficulty relaxing

- Cries easily

- Eyes sensitive to bright lights

- Inability to cope with stress

- Cold sweats

- Tired between 3-4 pm

- Insomnia between 2-4 am

- Hormonal imbalance/PMS

- Low or fluctuating blood pressure

- Sweaty hands and feet

- Blood pressure drops when you stand up

- Cravings for salty foods

- Allergies (rashes, seasonal, asthma)

- Low libido

- Personality Traits: perfectionist, likes to be alone, avoids conflict, doesn't like to be the centre of attention, has to get everything done to feel "okay"

The good news is We CAN HEAL THIS! When we get to the root cause of why we’re constantly stressed, stop telling our bodies we’re living that ‘dangerous’ life, and then add in the proper nutrients, lifestyle, and stress supports, we can bring strength back to our adrenal glands, eliminate these symptoms and REVIVE our Health! (I'm living proof).
